So what is
Energy Star for New Homes?
Energy Star is a partnership between the U.S. Environmental
Protection Agency (EPA) and organizations like EBS who are
dedicated to promoting energy efficiency and a healthier
environment. By purchasing a home with the Energy Star
label, you can have all the
features you desire in your new home, plus lower utility bills.
And, you will help reduce air pollution. Because of Energy Star,
last year Americans saved enough energy to power 20 million
homes and reduce greenhouse gas emissions equivalent to those
from 18 million cars, while saving $9 billion in energy costs.
How
Do Homes Qualify as Energy Star?
To achieve the
Energy Star certification/label, a home is required to include:
▪ Effective insulation
▪ High-performance windows
▪ Tight construction and tight
ducts
▪ More efficient heating and cooling equipment
▪ Independent testing provided by
EBS
Environmental Building Solutions tests new homes to ensure they
meet EPA efficiency standards and qualify to receive the Energy
Star label. To earn the label, a home must be at least 30
percent more efficient than a standard home.
